Volunteer opportunity description

Headway House provides a meeting place as well as facilities for improving social, domestic and educational skills. With the right help and support, progress and improvements can be made by people with acquired or traumatic brain injury for years after the injury has occurred.

Our aim is to help people rediscover skills they enjoyed before their injury or to discover new skills to enhance their lives through games, projects, discussions, and art and music therapy. The atmosphere within the Centre is both happy and stimulating.

In the mornings: we work on a one to one basis concentrating on specific problem areas including memory, concentration, attention, information processing and visual difficulties. This may be pen and paper or computer work.

In the afternoons: we work in groups on therapeutic activities, ranging from arm chair yoga, discussion groups to cookery and even a quiz. These are not only invaluable to our attendees but tend to be fun and light-hearted.

We are seeking companions to volunteer a minimum of two hours a week, becoming a learning buddy to our clients and providing support. Our centre is open Monday – Friday 10am – 3pm, and would greatly benefit from your help.  A good level of both English and maths is essential in order to be able to support an individual with their rehabilitation work. Basic IT is preferable but full training is provided for all our volunteers. Please contact us detailing your background and how you think you can help us, along with what hours/s day/s you can offer to help.   We look forward to hearing from you soon!
