Volunteer opportunity description

We are looking for friendly people to help support the smooth running of our age specific groups for young carers. Groups run weekly during the school term time on either a Monday or Thursday evening depending on the age of the child. 

Volunteers are required to: 

Support children and young people so they may take part in various activities including cooking, art or play and discussion based groups. 

Help with the setting up and tidying up the venue (depending on activity) 

Helping the children and young people to follow the group rules 

Listening and responding to the needs of vulnerable children and young people 

Reporting concerns to staff.  

Volunteers are offered: 

The opportunity gain experience and confidence of working with children and young people aged 5 – 18 years 

Working with a friendly team of staff and volunteers 

Full Induction Training 
Additional training in relevant to working with vulnerable young people including safeguarding

Volunteers must be aged 18 or over Have an empathy with the needs of vulnerable children and young people Rapport and confidence when meeting new service users Be assertive in appropriately challenging potential unsafe behaviour within the context of the group / activity A willingness to be open new experiences such as trying a new activity Good verbal communication skills Due to the nature of this role applicants will be required to complete a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS)Application or supply the organisation with relevant information for the DBS Update Service.
