Open Data and Transparency
Swindon Borough Council (the Council) is committed to the principles of open data and transparency. Open data means making the non-personal information we hold freely available to everyone in a format that can be viewed and re-used at will.
Anyone can use our data. You don't have to apply or ask for permission, but you do have to agree to the terms of the Open Government Licence for public sector information.

This website will promote volunteering opportunities that are available through various organisations from around Swindon. It is also allow you to register your interest in volunteering for any of these opportunities.

Information supplied by you
Volunteer Swindon members must provide their name, address, telephone number and e-mail in order to apply for volunteering opportunities. This information will be kept by SBC for future communications with volunteers, as well as being passed to third party volunteering organisations to enable them to manage volunteer applications.
Volunteer Swindon members are able to create a personal account on the Site, which will enable them to access additional functionality. Personal contact details are required so that the council can create an account, allocate a unique access password and, if you agree, send out appropriate communications to volunteers registering on the site. There are also optional equalities-related questions, e.g. on gender and ethnicity, which enable the Council to monitor the take-up of volunteering opportunities and to develop future marketing strategies
We will also collect information from you if you choose to take part in any of our surveys or polls to gauge the success of various volunteering programmes.
We may ask for this information through our Site, or as a result of other communications with us. Certain information is collected automatically (see below).
Swindon Borough Council for the purpose of the administration and evaluation of volunteers will hold the information you have supplied. The Council will retain your personal contact details for the duration of your interest in volunteering. Information regarding your volunteer participation will be held on record for insurance purposes and will be used to contact you about opportunities appropriate to your experience and interests. We will also use it to inform you about our programmes and events.
Automated information collection - Log files/IP addresses
When you visit our Site, we automatically log your IP address (the unique address which identifies your computer on the internet) which is automatically recognised by our web server. We use IP addresses to help us administer the Site and to collect broad demographic information for aggregate use
Whenever you completed a form, the information you provide will be used to administer and or process the application.
